Final preparations for the 2015 Laser Radial Women’s World Championships are nearly complete with 100 of the world’s top ranked female sailors ready for Friday’s opening race. Practice and training sessions are now complete, the sun is shining and a steady 12-knot breeze is blowing across the race course. Classic Sultanate of Oman racing conditions.
The competitors have been going through their pre-race routines, but we managed to speak to a few of the sailors down at the slipway.
Fernanda Decnop, current Laser Radial class Brazilian champion, said: “Mussanah is a very nice place to sail, a very beautiful place with nice conditions. It is my first time in Oman, I am enjoying it a lot so far – especially the weather, which is similar to Rio.”
Marina Psichogiou, event Race Officer and ISAF IRO, said: “Today is the second day of preparation for the race management team. Conditions are similar to those in Rio, except Rio has a stronger current, which will make it more difficult for the sailors, but the wind strength is nearly the same.”
Racing begins on Friday 20 November. Follow all the action live online with Oman Sail’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages.
